College credits in math or English

What does it mean to have previously earned college credits in math or English

If you have successfully completed coursework at a regionally accredited college or university, you may be able to transfer some or all of your credits to BBCC. If these classes are math or English classes, you may not need placement scores.

What do I need to do if I previously earned college credits in math or English

If you are an admitted student at BBCC, contact the college or university where you earned the credits and have an official transcript sent to BBCC for evaluation. Only official transcripts will be evaluated for BBCC credit. College-level credit will not be awarded from high school transcripts.

Important Note
Official electronic transcripts must be delivered to BBCC directly from the college or university through a secured electronic system. Official paper transcripts must be received in the original sealed envelope. Emailed or otherwise unofficial copies of transcripts will not be accepted for transfer credit.

What does it mean to be eligible for college credits in math or English through AP

If you took an AP (Advanced Placement) test, your scores may qualify for college credit. If that credit is for ENGL& 101 or any mathematics class, you may not need placement scores. Click here to see how your AP scores translate into college credit at BBCC.

If you are an admitted student at BBCC, contact the CollegeBoard and have an official AP score report sent to BBCC. Only official AP score reports will be evaluated for BBCC credit.


College credits in math or English through CLEP (College Level Examination Program)

What does it mean to be eligible for college credits in math or English through CLEP (College Level Examination Program)

If you took a CLEP (College Level Examination Program) test, your scores may qualify you for college credit. If that credit is for ENGL& 101 or any mathematics course, you may not need placement scores.

What do I need to do if I have college credits in math or English through CLEP

SAT or ACT scores

What are SAT or ACT scores

The SAT and ACT are standardized tests intended to measure reading, writing and math levels of high school students. If these scores meet certain minimum requirements, they may be used to determine English and math placement at BBCC. Click here to see how the SAT or ACT scores translate at BBCC.

SAT: Contact the CollegeBoard and have an official score report sent to BBCC (click here).

ACT: Contact ACT.org and have an official score report sent to BBCC (click here).


Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) scores

What are Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBAC) scores

Smarter Balanced Assessments are administered in some high schools to measure students’ level of learning. Scores range from level 1 through 4. The test scores may be used for English or math placement if scores and high school grades meet certain requirements. Scores are valid for 1 year after high school graduation.  Click here to see how your SBAC scores translate at BBCC.

What do I do if I have Smarter Balanced Assessment scores

English: Submit a copy of your ELA (English/Language Arts) individual score report showing level 3 or 4.

Math: Submit a copy of your math individual score report showing level 3 or 4 along with a copy (official or unofficial) of your high school transcript showing a grade of B or better in Algebra II or higher-level math. Grade reports and report cards will not be accepted.

 

Students who did not achieve a 3 or 4, but who completed a Bridge to College math or Bridge to College English course with a grade of B or better may submit a copy (official or unofficial) of their high school transcript for placement in that subject. (link to SBAC rules).


Placement scores from a different College

What does it mean to have placement scores from a different college

Other colleges and universities may offer placement testing to non-students. Contact a college or university near you to see if they offer this service.

What do I do if I have placement scores from a different college

Contact the college or university and ask them to send a copy of your test scores and their recommended placement to admissions@bigbend.edu.


Qualifying math or English grades from high school

What does it mean to have qualifying math or English grades from (Ephrata, Moses Lake, Othello, Quincy) high school

Some local high schools have worked with BBCC faculty to develop math and English placement agreements. If you are a student or recent graduate of Ephrata, Moses Lake, Othello or Quincy high schools, you may be able to use your high school grades for placement.

Submit a copy (official or unofficial) of your high school transcript to the Student Administrative Support Services office. Grade reports and report cards will not be accepted.
