Social Work (AA&S DTA) Pre-Requisite Flow Chart
Start by meeting with your advisor to determine which course to take first based on your placement scores.
Math Pathway
DVS 080: College Transitions Math → MATH 094: Intro to Algebra → Math 098: Intermediate Algebra I → MATH&146: Intro to Stats or MATH&107: Math in Society
English Pathway
ENGL 99: English Skills + CSS 106: Reading Skills → ENGL&101:Composition I → ENGL&102:Composition II
- Cumulative GPA must be 2.0 or higher (see BASW Program Info below)
- Must complete DTA or have earned a minimum of 80 college-level credits
- Must have two years of high school or one year of college world language (EWU grad requirement)
BASW Program Info
- Must pass ENGL&102 with a 2.7 or higher
- Math course must be passed with a 2.0 or higher
- MATH&146 – no additional math required at EWU
- MATH&107 – an additional math course required at EWU
- No more than two EWU or DTA required classes remaining at time of BASW application
DTA – Fall, Winter, Spring, or Summer
BASW at EWU – Fall
The AA&S DTA degree can be completed entirely online. Courses are offered on-campus, online, or hybrid (part on-campus, part online).
The BASW program is on campus in Cheney
90 Credits = 6 Quarters* if you take 15 credits each quarter
*Your specific route may take longer than 6 quarters depending on the number of credits you take each quarter and where you start in your math and English pathways.

Completion of the Associate of Arts & Sciences degree (BBCC) and the BASW (EWU) prepares students to engage in social work practices, working as professional social workers or case managers.
The AA&S DTA represents the broad knowledge generally acquired in the first two years of a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree. When students earn the AA&S DTA as lined out here for Social Work at EWU, they may transfer to EWU and apply to the Bachelor or Social Work (BASW) program with all prerequisites met.
